BOOK DESCRIPTION
This book is a science-fiction allegory for our times in which a mutated biological agent escapes from Porton Down weapons testing establishment outside Portsmouth, England. Superficially, the mutant appears to be a butterfly. The story revolves around a couple of University lecturers who stumble unwittingly on the agent, thinking it a new species. Through their research, the authorities are alerted to the possible publication of its origin and take ruthless steps to prevent this. Murder, political intrigue and big-business machinations occur against a background of increasing social awareness of danger and unrest, whilst a number of dedicated opponents of the system struggle for recognition of humanitarian values. Underlying the development of the characters and the action is an awareness of the interconnectedness of all life and a strong philosophical argument for the effects of inertia on ecological systems and on social conventions, no matter how violently these are disturbed.
A donation will be made from each book sold to encourage the spread of butterfly gardens and preservation of butterfly habitats throughout the world. The book is set in a bold font for ease of reading.

AUTHOR'S COMMENTS

It may be of interest that this plot came to me in its entirety in a dream and that the book virtually wrote itself.
I have always been intensely interested in the natural world, the interconnectedness of all life, spiritual development and creativity, so the story was crafted from the whole of my life.
The nature of the 'butterflies' was familiar to me as I have studied myxomycetes since I was twelve years old. Mycetozoa or slime moulds are now classified as a separate kingdom (not animal nor plant nor fungus). I have also loved butterflies from a very early age.
The protagonists were drawn with permission from composites of many of the people I have loved. The settings are places dear to me. The plot is fictional and no individual creature, living or dead, is portrayed factually, except Frazzle.
I have been very happy in the world as I know it and hope this offerring helps to promote awareness of how fragile it is and how we are really all interdependent parts of one beautiful organism.

Because of their astounding transformation from egg to caterpillar to chrysalis and then to the incredible beauty and elegance of the butterfly, they can be the mascot of mankind's own unfolding to more caring beings.
Stewardship of butterflies becomes linked to the larger issues of abatement of habitat destruction and fostering cultural and bio-diversity.
Butterflies embody all the beauty and complexity of nature itself. It is said that a butterfly can, with a flap of its wings, change the world because the ripple it sends out can spawn a hurricane.....

The Earth Proclamation
We are one people... we share one planet... we have one common dream... we want to live in peace... we choose to protect and heal the earth... we cherish the earth's bio and cultural diversity... we will choose to create a better world for all... we will become stewards for the planet's threatened and endangered species... we will defend and protect the rain forests, redwoods, and other sacred places... we will do our best to make this dream come true... we will do this for our children, and our children's children... we will transform what needs to be transformed... we will break free of our chrysalis limitations... we will joyfully love, share, and forgive... so that peace may prevail on earth!
May peace prevail on earth!
